Leader’s Toolbox
After the initial excitement of a recognition program, leaders tend to wear down in their efforts and employees become discouraged. To sustain recognition efforts, keep the following tips in mind:
Step #1: Link Recognition to the Organization.
Always link recognition efforts to the organization’s strategic objectives and values, and leadership strategies. This should be an ongoing, conscious effort.
Step #2: Reenergize.
Learn to reenergize recognition efforts by reassessing and reaffirming actions. As a leader do not allow your efforts to become stale and out of habit.
Step #3: Terminate when appropriate.
Do not be afraid to terminate recognition programs when they are no longer effective or useful.
